A LIST OF THINGS THAT MAKE ME WORK BETTER
CHECKING THINGS OFF
I usually write out little notes/to-do lists for myself in the evening. The next morning, I hunker down with a coffee and cocoon for about an hour to knock out whatever I’m dreading the most on my list. Once I get started, I realise that it’s usually not that bad. Checking off the scariest item first thing in the morning gives me a burst of energy and helps me feel ready to tackle the rest of the day.
Blue-light glasses
I bought a pair of blue-light glasses for days when I’m staring at my screen a lot. I don’t know if they work, but they help me get into work mode.
TECH READS
A memoir of a female programmer, Life in Code by Ellen Ullman has made me think deeply about the subconscious ways in which technology has altered our culture and world. Covering the tech industry, it is super refreshing to take a step back and ponder the more philosophical questions around technology.
Bright Power Suits
Bright power suits and gold hoops gives me the extra shot when I walk into important business meetings.
EXPLORING MOUNTAINS
Anytime I’m hiking, camping or exploring the mountains in New Zealand, I feel I can breathe a little more deeply. It calms me.
